Naturally, someone who had professed the coming of the next ice age in the 1970s would be a bit less believable if he were professing that global warming was the planets current state. Well put

  2. niceley335 says:

the earth has been warming up and cooling back down for millions of years anyway…

  3. DrDave953 says:

A bit of global warming perspective, google…

    xepisodes southpark/episodes/908/Two-Days-Before-the-Day-After-Tomorrow.html

    Dave.

  4. nellieou says:

So what if the Earth is really warming? The Earth does what the Earth will do. Our tiny CO2 emmissions have nothing to do with it. The scientific data actually show that the SUN is causing the warming and CO2 rises after the warmth, not BEFORE.

  5. docmarkc says:

And for that matter. Dinosaurs lived for MILLIONS of years in a tropical climate. Bones unearthed in the arctic! A few hundred thousand years ago we had an ice age right after they died out. what exactly is the TYPICAL earth climate then?

  6. docmarkc says:

Ummm, so you watched “The day after the day after tomorrow next week” too?

Just because there was a movie made about it doesn’t make it true. Otherwise I would live in fear of space aliens and killer spiders.

  7. ToothbrushMan says:

One of the symptons of global warming is the shutting down of the atlantic conveyor and the changing of the gulf stream. This will remove the warm waters from northen europe, which will then freeze tight – they are on the same latitude as labrador.

  8. StunnedByStupidity says:

What a SCIENTIFIC assessment (and a consevative one BTW) of the climate.

OOOOOO Bugga Bugga – scientists ’selling’ science run for the hills, run for hills right wingers, reality is on the prowl and we are defenseless – our bigotry, name calling and conspiracy theories are useless… run for the hills…

  9. wedjatgod says:

the point is not whether scientists were saying global temps were cooling or warming. the point is that scientists are getting it wrong again and again, and instead of admitting that science is not always accurate and changes with new information; these envirnmentalists and climate ’scientists’ want to paint a picture that they know for sure that humans are causing severe climate change to the world. we don’t know that for sure and we shouldn’t try to be enviro-nazis based on biased research.

  10. StunnedByStupidity says:

Look, stop it… 7 SCIENTIFIC papers (not magazine articles or sensationalist newspaper/tv programs) for cooling in the 70’s and 42 for warming.

Nothing even vaguely comparable is happening now. ALL the PEER REVIEWED science agrees., ALL the worlds scientific institutions and 97% of the climatologists.

It’s game over for anyone with more than 2 brain cells or who is not a right winger (the worlds champion bigots).

‘global warming 1958′ on you tube. Hmmm…

  11. jimbo1490 says:

You must be in your 20’s or 30’s. Those of us old enough to remember this era recall CLEARLY the global COOLING scare; there was absolutely NO talk about warming! The ‘impending ice age’ stories were on the news almost every night and on the major magazine covers like Popular Science, Scientific American, Time and Newsweek all the time.

  12. jimbo1490 says:

“We have to offer up scary scenarios, make simplified, dramatic statements, and make little mention of any doubts we may have. Each of us has to decide what the right balance is between being effective and being honest.”

If I worked for a grocery store, I’d sell you groceries
If I worked for a car dealer, I’d sell you a car
If I worked for a coffee shop, I’d sell you coffee
If I worked for the Panel on Climate Change, I’d sell you …

  14. StunnedByStupidity says:

PATHETIC. The consensus in the 70’s was that it was warming as well…

  15. Gnillob802 says:

You can attribute the quote to Stephen Schneider from the documentary “Not Evil Just Wrong” (2009), Greener Horizon Films.

  16. t1e2s3ting123 says:

thanks … but I meant the original reference.
    A document ?
An documented interview or public appearance ?
    Perhaps a recording ?
I like to have my info documented when I engage in a discussion. Thanks again !

  17. Gnillob802 says:

The quote was by Professor Stephen Schneider, Stanford University.

  18. jpozenel says:

The experts in climate always seem to change their long-range theories when deemed necessary. No matter what happens, they will always say that they told us so.

  19. DeusExMachina7709 says:

No, the words “denier” and “ignorant” are not exclusive to science.

Someone who claims the earth is flat is both a denier of the round earth model and ignorant. You disagree?

  20. joiadbvjaw9384 says:

You reveal that for you, this issue is not about science but about politics. First by calling people who disagree with you “deniers”, a politically-charged but unscientific word. Second, by calling them “ignorant”, a most unscientific ad-hominem attack.

  21. t1e2s3ting123 says:

hi I am researching this issue – can you give me the source of that quote for my records ?

    Thanks !

  22. SparklestheClown says:

I worry when our Congress jumps on pr wagons, and hollywood wagons to make legislation, which will impact us all in not necessarily the right way. Like Cap and Trade Bills, that will make GE rich, not us. And while I believe we have to do some things, I question the manner in which these things are approached!

  23. DeusExMachina7709 says:

    First off, SO2 isn’t a hydrocarbon.

Here’s the best graph I could find detailing SO2 aerosol emissions.
    columbia . edu/~xzp1/photos/SO2byCountry . jpg

The “global cooling” scenario is based on the assumption of an increase in atmospheric sulfates by a factor of four. Quite clearly that didn’t happen. Case closed.

  24. y2knoproblem says:

The earth is flat. Anybody that disagrees with me is a flat earth denier.
