the greed for power and wealth results to oppression and violence. I was shocked when I heard about this news. I feel sad for the victims and their families. The Philippines is such a great place to visit. It is just stained by the numerous bloodshed in Mindanao because of political and religious rivalries.
The important point is that the US has known all along what’s happening in Mindanao – along with the UK, EU, Australia, China, etc, but all support the ‘evil’ arroyo. Even the US gives military assistance (training/intel) to the Armed Forces of PI’s.
Everyone fails the people there because life is cheap and minerals are a valuable commodity. Mindanao has 100’s thousands hectares of valuable arable land . Maguindanao has natural gas reserves.

I just feel very sorry for the vast majority of very good people who have to suffer from trouble and fall-out from a situation entirely caused by a shitty, corrupt government. Nobody deserves this anywhere.
I’m even more pissed that ‘developed world’ USA, UK, EU, etc ‘leaders’ etc turn a blind eye to shitty governments who cause conflict in places like Mindanao because they also want ‘their cut’ in the mineral wealth via crappy mining companies that influence these governments.

Even the streets of Davao city are empty now after the massacre; people are scared.
Many investors are pulling out from ’safe’ places because they lost all confidence in the government in Manila.
People try to put a good face for this, but fact remains the the Philippines is now one of the worst countries in the world for tourisma nd commerce – unless you are into mining.
RIP Philippine Islands due to abject corruption and you people accepting this in Manila. Screw you all.

I totally agree with you… Just what my old folks back home used to tell me, im half-filipino, and im proud to be a filipino outside philippines, but with these series of gruesome infamous events can’t help but to have 2nd thoughts. Anyone would challenge me, but sorry guys, Philippines is in no way will be able to regain its old glory. Put that in mind in the next 100 years. That is if Philippines will still be in existence.

You are right, the arms business is huge in the Philippines. Again, ask who gains from this and you get close to the one stirring up trouble.
And, there are many ways to get weapons into the Philippines. This is why better cooperation is needed amongst ASEAN nations on border patrols.
BTW, I know you can but anything if you have money, inc latest military equipment/weapons. There is always a seller with no morals to supply whatever people desire.

I heard of Mayor Osmeña. Regardless of whether or not people agree with some methods to get rid of criminals (and I know the implications of this/abuses), this situation exists because national gvt. has zero moral authority/respect – other than with the oligarch it supports.
BTW, I understand crime has dropped considerably in Cebu.
