Before you judge James Toney keep in mind that while he did lose and take brutal beating he’s not the first Boxer in its rich history to try fighting a Wrestler and lose. This was tried alot in the old 1800′s and ealy 1900′s. Yes, alot of them were fixed (as it turned to be what we know Pro Wrestling to be today) and alot of the fixed ones were prob when the Boxer won. But make no mistake this is nothing new. We will see more cross-over fights. Believe me. It happens like that in Prize fighting. There will be success stories on both ends. However, it will be tough for one man to be elite at both. The conditioning is differant, the stand is differant, what works in each sport is differant, the technique is differant, the sports are apples and oranges its not even funny. You cant bob and weave in MMA or slip and pivot like you do in Boxing. You dont get in an MMA stance in a Boxing match… you give up height and balance to coming strikes. The countering is differant. Watch Floyd Mayweather Jr slip punches with his guard and shoulder roll coming strikes… you do that in Boxing. It doesnt work in MMA because you’re feet are open to getting taken down. Watch Sergi oMartinez roll with the punch and circle the ring while applying counter punches. An art that isnt part of MMA. Its as useless in MMA as Kicking is in Boxing. Dynamics of Boxing are missing in MMA and arent really seen much until two guys have a silent agreement to “box” in MMA. We’ve seen it before. But both guys …
